It’s very light because it’s full of air bubbles, very like an Aero chocolate bar. Also called Lava Rocks, they’re used to line the bottom of clay chimeneas before making your first fire.

Because pumice is such a good insulator it’ll protect the clay from thermal shock, which can sometimes happen when one area of the body gets a lot hotter than the rest. The idea is you want steady build up of heat, and these stones let you achieve exactly that.
